K1 Power Supply Manufacturing Checkout Procedure

1.0 Introduction

The Korad K1 Power Supply is designed for use with the K1 and K1000 series laser systems. The function of the supply is to charge the energy storage capacitor bank to a selected voltage. For a complete description of the supply, see the "K1 Power Supply Instruction Manual".

The purpose of this procedure is not to describe the K1 power supply; but instead, provide an easy and safe method of testing and calibrating the supply. For this purpose, a special test fixture has been provided and will be the only equipment necessary to test the supply.

2.0 Equipment Needed:

1) K1 test fixture
2) 5 kilojoule head with lamp and heat exchanger

3.0 Hook-up:

(a) Connect the power supply to the test fixture as shown in the image below

4.0 To test the interlock:

Remove 15A fuse. Set the controls on the K1 test panel and the power supply as indicated and verify the following conditions:

(b)

Push the charge button. Verify that charge light comes on, meter rises to 1 KV approximately and stops. Charge light should then go out and fire light comes on.

(c)

Leave the controls the same as in step 7 except, set the kilovolt pot to 4.5 KV. Push charge button and verify when charge light comes on, meter raises to 4.5 KV exactly and stop. Charge light should then go out and fire light comes on. If the meter does not read 4.5 KV exactly, push the dump button adjust R12 on the logic card and repeat the step.

9.0 To test the fire and synchronizing circuit

(a)

Push dump button, connect a 5 kilojoule lamp to J4 (lamp in head using a heat exchanger of course). All controls same as in Paragraph 7.0, Step (b) except set the kilovolt pot to 3.5 KV. Push charge button, wait until fire light comes on, then push the fire button. Verify that lamp fires, neter goes to zero, and the synchronizing light does not come on, turn the power switch off, discharge the 400 microFarad bank with the discharge rod. Disconnect the 110 VAC line and interchange the two wires on L1.

(b)

Reconnect the 110 VAC line and repeat step (a) three or four times. Use the reset button on the K1 test panel to reset the synchronizing light after each fire.

10.0 To test outputs on TB1

(a) Make sure S2 on the test panel is on, set the kilovolt dial on the power supply to 1.00 and verify that the meter on the test panel reads the following voltages when S1 is switched.

S1 (pos)

Meter

1

34V 10%

2

3

50 10%

(b) Set kilovolt dial on the power supply to zero and verify meter on the test panel reads the following voltages when S1 is switched.

S1 (pos)

Meter

1

34V 10%

2

34V 10%

3

50V 10%

(c) Push "F" button on test panel and verify that voltage on meter drops and return to original value.

(d) Set kilovolt dial to 1.00 on power supply, push "C" button on test panel and verify suplly charge to 1.00 KV

(e) Push "D" button on test panel and verify that supply dumps.

11.0 To test remote input

(a) Turn power switch off. Conect a K1 remote assembly to J2 (remote connector). Set controls as in Paragraph 8.0 step (a). Turn power switch on and push the remote charge button. When supply is charged, push remote fire. Verify that supply charges and fires.

(b) Push charge button. But, before suply is completely charged, push remote dump button. Verify that remote dump button dumps supply.
